Fake Laugh
Live at The Grace
Kamran Khan began playing music at the age of 7 when he and his twin sister Yasmin took joint violin lessons in primary school. Over the years, violins transformed into guitars and pre-teen dalliances with Scandinavian Metal morphed into obsessions with British 80´s alt-pop. Informed by compilation CDs made by older friends from the local skatepark, aged 13 Khan formed his first band, mainly playing covers of early Cure songs while also trying his hand at songwriting for the first time.
Fake Laugh first emerged in 2013 as a side-project to Khan´s main band at the time, eventually becoming his primary focus of creativity. After a string of singles and EPs, Fake Laugh´s self-titled debut album arrived in the summer of 2017 as the delicate accumulation of years of experimentation. Unfurling slowly, the full length was a gradual process: part playfulness, part search for pop perfection. Tuning into the digital disconnect of contemporary life, the album is a vivid rummage through the familiar worlds of love, confusion and self-questioning.
